I created an art exhibition of well known British artist, Banksy a.k.a "Robert Banks."
He does politically charged large scale stencil throw ups onto british sidewalks and old buildings in London. He also does contemporary artistic sabotage of Thomas Kincaid style works with his works of adding in modern gay ghetto trash to beautifully render meadows and waterliles with a lovely view of a half submerged Shopping Cart, and road cones. He is the modern day Che Guevarra of the guerilla artist movement, its for the people.
My final was inspired by the reading of Shepard Fairey's Manifesto about all the places in the world that haven't been painted. I wanted to create a gallery space that could import High Resolution Art of both amateur and famous artists in the art community. You could scale those images in photoshop and import them into a virtual 3d gallery space controlled VIA a game design engine. You run the space allowing free ranged movement to sit and enjoy the pieces in a virtual space from the comfort of your own computer space. This would give thousands of people world wide, public access 24 hours a day to the underground and professional art scene. Theoretically. enjoi. :P

It goes to show you that video games in culture now a days are just another form of art. They can be jumping points for creativity and brand new ideas. This guy took the basic idea of Guitar hero, threw it over the edge with adding an electronics display that is full functional and useable down to the use of a magnetic pick to strum the notes instead of a strum bar that comes standard on the guitar controllers. He also included an electronic whammy bar into the computer programming so that you could get the full on experience of playing a virtual guitar.
The reading was a bit tight as far as language goes. However, it made a good point about literature and text based videogames. Text based videogames are alot like those books you would read as a child, the choose your own adventure books. The storyline was the same but everytime you picked up the book, it led to a different place. This is alot like some text based videogames now adays, such as facade, where your responses to computer generated questions will either fix or further harm a relationship between two people who are on the verge of splitting but don't show any emotion about it until you show up for a dinner at their house. However, the reference of a literary labyrinth was pretty much the nail on the head. Textual based responses and directives are much like a labyrinth that is forked. Their is only one way out but their are multiple routes to get to that goal. Videogames are based upon this theory because the user needs a space to make thier own decisions and reactions but eventually wind down to some kind of goal or conclusion.

Seeing as video games are much like music in the same sense that
we all dip form the same well.
My serious game idea was to establish a sense of political control.
inspired primarily from playing KoTOR 1 and 2. It would be interesting to see the rise in political status and you would ultimately have the "good" and "evil approaches morally because you could turn your influence and country to a Stalin Style socialist standpoint ro be a HItler or you can spread prosperity and end hunger and become a world reknown life changer and gain popularity.

The whole goal of the game:
you start out as no one and build reputation and gain status and sculpt the government and how far your influence reaches. Then you can decide whether to be a dictator or a social type ruler you can decide to go to war with countrys or build space programs with neighboring countries. It would have a very realistic approach with no sci-fi undertones.

They hope to recover the X-Wing in one piece after it's flight (via 3 parachutes)...

Fable features a unique character customization system based on ? and on the concept that everything the character does affects him. If he eats too much, he will gain weight. if he doesn't block in battle, he will have scars, and if he stands in the sun too long, he will tan, Having the character drink too much beer will make him sick and throw up.
The method of combat affects the hero's appearance, a warrior who uses heavy weapons will find his musculature and size increase, an archer will be lean and sleek, a mage will have glowing hands and can gain access to blue tattoos.
Every article of clothing the character acquires will change his in-game appearance. He can be further customized through a variety of haircuts, facial hair, and tattoo cards which allow for a range of body modification options. The clothing, hairstyle, and tattoos the character wears will affect the way he is seen by the non-player characters.
The actions that the character makes will award either good or evil points. Killing monsters or saving villagers will result in achieving good points. Committing a crime, killing an innocent person, or getting a spouse to divorce you will accumulate evil points. These affect not only the responses of the non-player characters, but also the appearance of the character. A hero with an abundance of good points will soon find a halo surrounding his head, butterflies swarming around him and his hair will turn blonde. An evil character will sprout horns, emit a red haze from around their legs, draw wasps, and have glowing red eyes, in addition to getting a receding hairline. As he grows older, whether he is good or evil, his hair will start to turn white. The apparent age of the hero is related to the core skills he acquires. the higher he raises his level, the older his appearance becomes. The player is pushed to use moral judgment and surpress instinctive methods of evil and choose their path. Through ever expanding methods and evolving A.I. and scenarios, the player changes the outcome of the game and educates people on moral and conscious decisions.

I more or less didnt find subversive articles or games, but rather got in touch with the aspect and use of subversive art.
Environmental issues take precedent for Soto, who is concerned with conflict of humans trying to harness, or take advantage of nature. His paintings exude this tension, as robotic creatures duel, organic tentacles and flower bouquets thrive, and black smog looms amidst floating, ominous skulls.

This artist, Jeff Soto, does politically charged subversive art and takes a beautiful stab at politics.

Do you think that military use of computer games increases or decreases the likelihood of armed conflict?

To a certain degree, yes. Does it make me want to join the army? no.
Their is a certain degree of simple minded fools out their who will suck up the
saturated media overload of

"AMERICA, FUCK YEA!
COMING TO SAVE THE MOTHERFUCKIN DAY YEA!"

The military created this game solely for the purpose of raising recruitment numbers.
It just happened to be that the video game audience ate it up and like a wildfire, and
the military knew how to spread its war. I don't necessarily think that videogames increase the likely hood of armed conflict though. Its like the age old question of, do violent video games make violent people?

no.
violent people make violent people.

I think that their are a huge number of people out their who are willing to jump on the bandwagon just because everyone else is.
In final, i think that this video game in particular may be a tool to creating armed conflict via reaching idiots who are all about following a blind cause and more importantly the immediate contribution to a larger picture of convincing the world that the army is the only way to defend patriotism, but i don't believe videogames are a tool to increasing armed conflict. The army is just desperate to reach kids, and figured out that the only way to reach them was by invading the one place they went to to escape the harshness of reality. So in turn the army invaded kids minds by invading their hobbies and habits and convincing them that all their freedom is at stake if they don't fight for it. These blind and dumb fools will follow because they are being brainwashed into believing that their freedom is at stake.
way to go winners.

videogames are a way to enjoy our friends and explore our imaginations, not make wars.

so what happens when you take a good idea and you spice it up and with futuristic weapons and cool character designs and demons and sprinkle on an apocalypse?
You get Hellgate: London.
Then what happens when you take that idea and you bring it to your head honcho and he turns you down and tells you, it just won't sell?
Answer: you say Fuck it...and you start your own company.
The design team behind the Diablo Franchises, came up with a concept for a new Diablo3, but were turned down. In retaliation, they left blizzard with their baby and co founded, Flagship Studios, with namco, and brought that baby to life.
That baby is Hellgate: London.
