I brush my teeth with my right hand. I always put the paste on first and then run the brush under the water because my sister told me when I was little that the water then "activates" the toothpaste. When I am up for a challenge I try and do the brushing with my left hand. This is extremely tedious and I never feel like I get my teeth quite as clean as when I use my right hand.
I like being mindful - it feels very zen to pay attention to one's actions and take care when doing things. I like the idea of body as art, motion as art - life as art. "Ordinary life performed as art/not art can change the everyday with metaphoric power". I like this feeling of purpose. It is exciting to think that we can be important out of such contexts like HOLLYWOOD and places, where unless you are on the tabloids or newspapers, or the ART STAR of the month that you are important.

I am ready to assess the ROUTINE and take caution, care and mind in my actions/movements. Unless we start to see art as something that is part of our lives, something that is a part of EVERYONE and something that is IMPORTANT, then we're in real trouble.

I also "activate" the toothpaste by putting water on it first. Strange and interesting that so many of us do that. I don't necessarily think of it as "activating" the toothpase, but I do it anyway- I don't really know why. It seems to work.
I'm curious to know if anyone brushes their teeth without putting water on the toothpaste first, and how they feel about the idea of watering the toothpasted brush before putting it in their mouth?
As for art as part of everyone....
It IS a part of all of us, it IS in our nature, and is IMPORTANT- regardless of whether we acknowledge it or not! So we are not in real trouble, because art will always be there.

I'm more of a pre-wetter: wet the toothbrush first then apply the paste. Why?
I found it very poignant the other day when I was watching my son brushing his teeth and I realized that he was doing it the way I had asked him to do it. Then I thought about all the things I do because I was told they were they way to do them. And that now I was passing those arbitrary actions onto him. It made me very sad.
