Final: Digital Art Gallery

I created an art exhibition of well known British artist, Banksy a.k.a "Robert Banks."
He does politically charged large scale stencil throw ups onto british sidewalks and old buildings in London. He also does contemporary artistic sabotage of Thomas Kincaid style works with his works of adding in modern gay ghetto trash to beautifully render meadows and waterliles with a lovely view of a half submerged Shopping Cart, and road cones. He is the modern day Che Guevarra of the guerilla artist movement, its for the people.
My final was inspired by the reading of Shepard Fairey's Manifesto about all the places in the world that haven't been painted. I wanted to create a gallery space that could import High Resolution Art of both amateur and famous artists in the art community. You could scale those images in photoshop and import them into a virtual 3d gallery space controlled VIA a game design engine. You run the space allowing free ranged movement to sit and enjoy the pieces in a virtual space from the comfort of your own computer space. This would give thousands of people world wide, public access 24 hours a day to the underground and professional art scene. Theoretically. enjoi. :P

Guitar Hero III and Beyond

It goes to show you that video games in culture now a days are just another form of art. They can be jumping points for creativity and brand new ideas. This guy took the basic idea of Guitar hero, threw it over the edge with adding an electronics display that is full functional and useable down to the use of a magnetic pick to strum the notes instead of a strum bar that comes standard on the guitar controllers. He also included an electronic whammy bar into the computer programming so that you could get the full on experience of playing a virtual guitar.

Final Proposal

I think im going to use the 3d engine we have been playing with to build a virtual art gallery, and utilizing the sun and lighting aspects, try to create a 7 room structure with each wall in the rooms being a separate piece from a separate artist, Each room would be a separate room for each artist, for a total of 6 artists, and 1 lobby space.

Ergodic literature

The reading was a bit tight as far as language goes. However, it made a good point about literature and text based videogames. Text based videogames are alot like those books you would read as a child, the choose your own adventure books. The storyline was the same but everytime you picked up the book, it led to a different place. This is alot like some text based videogames now adays, such as facade, where your responses to computer generated questions will either fix or further harm a relationship between two people who are on the verge of splitting but don't show any emotion about it until you show up for a dinner at their house. However, the reference of a literary labyrinth was pretty much the nail on the head. Textual based responses and directives are much like a labyrinth that is forked. Their is only one way out but their are multiple routes to get to that goal. Videogames are based upon this theory because the user needs a space to make thier own decisions and reactions but eventually wind down to some kind of goal or conclusion.

A force More Unreal

I got the hang of the game however, i find the game to be very dry.
I would add more dialogue or something interactive because as far as i can tell this game has the pulse of a coma patient.

my screenshot of the concert i through, that turned into a riot:

Serious Game Idea: politics

Seeing as video games are much like music in the same sense that
we all dip form the same well.
My serious game idea was to establish a sense of political control.
inspired primarily from playing KoTOR 1 and 2. It would be interesting to see the rise in political status and you would ultimately have the "good" and "evil approaches morally because you could turn your influence and country to a Stalin Style socialist standpoint ro be a HItler or you can spread prosperity and end hunger and become a world reknown life changer and gain popularity.

The whole goal of the game:
you start out as no one and build reputation and gain status and sculpt the government and how far your influence reaches. Then you can decide whether to be a dictator or a social type ruler you can decide to go to war with countrys or build space programs with neighboring countries. It would have a very realistic approach with no sci-fi undertones.

Life Size X-wing

just because it was funny to me, i thought i would share:

21-feet long and has a 19-foot wingspan. It's powered by four Class M rocket engines (on the wings), which produce a red glow, just like the original. It will be launched in a fashion similar to traditional model rockets, but after liftoff the wings are going to open to attack position, through the use of a motor the team installed. They hope to recover the X-Wing in one piece after it's flight (via 3 parachutes)...
