Idea for Poetic Terrorism

I thought of an idea for a poetic terrorism. Make 200 fliers that say there is a chance to win an 100,000 dollar scholarship. The flier would say that there are 10 spots available. To win the contest you must go online to a website provided (that was made special for this PT) and enter some information. The information is not very personal. For example, it would ask for your name and what school you attend. I would assume that any college student would try to do something simple to obtain a huge scholarship. You would log in and the website would say that "You won!" to everyone. It would tell you to proceed and at the end of a long process, which you are extremely excited about, it tells you that there is no real money. The art to this torture is the excitement they once felt a moment ago. It's harsh but exciting.

Ways of Seeing

I must say, seeing the film before reading the chapter made the reading much easier to understand. I know that wasn't the order assigned but it helped quite a bit.

I disagreed that publicity images never speak of the present. yes, they do talk about the past and future, but they also talk about the here-and-now as well. For example, they will mention the war, merchandise, and feelings that are here at this very moment. I believe that publicity is about the merchandise AND pleasure. It's not completely pleasure seeking. Things you need. Go get it before it's gone!

I agreed that publicity makes you believe that buying certain items will enrich your life for the better. By buying the item(s) you are a happier, more popular, and more rich in society as a human being, but you are literally less rich by spending your money. I thought that was an interesting concept because it is true. That seems to be an element that we as consumers overlook. But do we care? I don't think so. As long as we get our personal statisfaction we are happy, at least temporarily.

Imagine (Inspired by Yoko Ono)

Close your eyes
Imagine you are on the beach during a sunny day
You find a spot you would like to rest
Lay out your blanket
Lay on it and start to sleep
You are awakened by a familiar voice
You open your eyes from your beach sleep and see a close friend
You're reminiscing with your friend is now over
OPEN YOUR EYES!
-
write about how you felt from the moment you stepped foot on the imaginary beach to the moment you saw your close friend.

Response:
I was feeling anxious to find a spot to sit.
I felt relieved when I found somewhere to put my blanket.
I was excited to rest.
When I saw my friend, I wanted to cry and laugh at the same time.
I am very lonely in the city sometimes.
It was nice to see a friendly face.
I was kind of sad to open my eyes.

Nature (Inspired by Yoko Ono)

Go outside
Sit in a garden
Pull up a hand full of grass
Break it into tiny pieces
If you feel a connection with nature, then move on with you day.
If you need more time, please continue breaking the grass and enjoying the garden.
How do you feel now?

Response:
I loved this excercise because it is good for me to be in the sun and enjoying nature. It didn't take long for me to feel the connection with Mother Earth.

Detournement

Detournement is taking something old and making something contemporary. An old and traditional piece of artwork is transformed to something that doesn't represent the original object. The goal of the transformation is to make new expressions through art. The traditional art styles of expression is meaningless and forgotten. The detournement movement is not really dealing with reality. It is about propaganda and editing the tradition of art to portray a message to culture. I feel like detournement is devaluing the original piece to make a statement about the artwork.

My Advertisement Idea

I am planning on making fun of fashion poses. It's more of high fashion, that i will be focusing on. I will take my own pictures in black and white and copy a fashion label to paste onto it.
